…was yesterday sentenced to one year in jail by magistrate Adela Nagamootoo at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court. [well isn't that lovely? one year! providence or coincidence that the magistrate is a woman?]

Most probably coincident– the Magistrates have to follow guidelines when sentencing and the powers that be probably didn’t think that it was THAT serious an offence back in the day like say– crime against property.
